The Scopes Trial

In 1925 a court case that soon became conception of discourse famous, began. It was known as the Scopes essay, named after defendant washstand doubting Thomas Scopes, and pitted him against the state of Tennessee. Tennessee had just of late passed the Butler Act, which tabu the teaching of developing in schools. Scopes had been a believer in the liberty of teaching whatever he may satisfy and this did not bode well with the state. He was arrested for teaching development in the small city of Dayton and this caused a huge controversy. Evolutionists and creationists were battling for whether evolution would be taught in school. The Scopes Trial, however, is much more than than merely a debate in the midst of the two sides. The Scopes rill promoted the nous of favouritism against African-Americans and creationists as well as robbing teachers of their freedom to teach what they demand. The due southwest was notorious for racism and discrimination so what better prescribe for the Scopes Trial to take place in than the south. African-Americans were still tempered poorly even though slaveholding was illegal, and they felt that the Scopes Trial was an example of discrimination even if it was not directly aimed at them.

Because the south was rather traditional, they did not want to have to change their idea of white supremacy.
